Welcome back to Day 5 of my 15 day Blogger Challenge. This challenge is hosted by April over at Good Books and Good Wine. Today’s topic is to describe how you shop for books.

 

I’m the funniest person when I shop for books. If I go into a used bookstore, I’m most likely to come out with an adult romance book…Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Sandra Brown, Johanna Lindsey…etc. I will also take FOREVER to choose my books. I pick up all the books that I potentially want so that nobody else can have them until I decide if I want them or not. It doesn’t even matter if there’s multiples of the book. I just know that somebody is going to come in and buy all the copies of the one book that I didn’t hold on to!

That is actually pretty common for me in other stores, too. When I’m in B&N, I always have this book tower that’s teetering over my head because I don’t trust the books to be there if I set them down. Nobody can have my books until I decide what I want! And I usually only come out with like 2-4 books, but I’m usually holding like 7-10. One time one of the workers asked me if I wanted a basket……..I said yes[=

Most of my shopping is done at B&N. I don’t go there often, because I really don’t need the books….BUT I usually spend about an hour and an hour and a half in there trying to make up my mind. And it gets slightly difficult because every single time that I’m in B&N, I HAVE to help someone pick out a book. I HAVE to! I will ask them what genres they like, what they’ve previously read, if they know what they want or if they’re just browsing. I am the unofficial worker of B&N. They should hire me. At least someone there is working!

As for the books themselves, I always go for covers. Sometimes, I’ll go for super popular books even if the cover sucks, because I’ve heard such great things…but usually I won’t pick out a book with a shitty cover. I also NEVER buy contemporary books. Ever. I refuse.

Finally, when I shop for books, I have a very bad habit of rearranging the books to how I think they should be organized. My B&N obviously doesn’t have very many workers who love YA. I have to rearrange their books ALL the time! They are so horrible at it! Olympia…if you’re reading this…fix your damn shelves! Like, for example, they had In the After by Demitria Lunetta in this off the wall place….and they had like 2 different sections of her….and one was in like older YA sections. I was like, huh? And they had this stupid manga looking book in the Popular New Releases sections. No way. I fixed that right off the bat.
