Fated (Soul Seekers #1) - Alyson Noel

Until now, he’s existed only in her dreams - but fate is about to bring them together.

I shove through the crowd, knocking into girls and bouncing off boys, until one in particular catches me, steadies me.
I feel so secure, so at home in his arms.
I melt against his chest-lift my gaze to meet his. Gasping when I stare into a pair of icy blue eyes banded by brilliant flecks of gold that shine like kaleidoscopes, reflecting my image thousands of times.
The boy from my dream.
The one who died in my arms

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Immortals, Alyson Noël, comes Fateda breathtaking new saga brimming with magic, mystery, and an intoxicating love story that will steal your heart away. Meet The Soul Seekers.

Strange things are happening to Daire Santos. Crows mock her, glowing people stalk her, time stops without warning, and a beautiful boy with unearthly blue eyes haunts all her dreams. Fearing for her daughter’s sanity, Daire’s mother sends her to live with the grandmother she’s never met. A woman who recognizes the visions for what they truly are—the call to her destiny as a Soul Seeker—one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead.

There on the dusty plains of Enchantment, New Mexico, Daire sets out to harness her mystical powers. But it’s when she meets Dace, the boy from her dreams, that her whole world is shaken to its core. Now Daire is forced to discover if Dace is the one guy she’s meant to be with…or if he’s allied with the enemy she’s destined to destroy.

Daire Santos has been having some crazy dreams lately. She dreams of gorgeous boys, love, strange places….and demons. Daire also has visions. And on a trip with her mother, she has her strongest vision of all. After being classified a nutcase, Daire must pick up her whole life and move to New Mexico so that her long last grandmother who she’s never met can help her become same once again.

Once away from her mother and with her grandmother, Daire slowly starts to come to reality. She’s learned that she’s not crazy. Instead, she’s something known as a seeker. Her visions and dreams? Not made up. Everything is slowly starting to come to reality right in her new small little town.

After meeting some friends along the way, not to mention her one true love, Dace, Daire learns that she’s going to have to put her seeker powers to the test much sooner than she expected. She’s going to have to find off this evil group known as the Coyotes, and save some souls along the way. Join Daire and her friends along this epic quest!

When Fated first started I was completely in love. The writing was gorgeous. The characters were brilliant. Everything was so amazing that I didn’t want to put the book down. The beginning have didn’t really focus on Daire being a seeker. Instead, it focused on her slowly losing her mind and grasping to come back to reality. It was a really intense ride to watch Daire and her mother try to cope with their new changes.

Unfortunately, the book got really weird around the halfway mark. And I mean REALLY weird. All of a sudden we learn about this weird Seeker history/world and the characters get creepy and…..well….weird. I was really upset because I originally loved the book SO much, but it just kept getting worse and worse for me starting at the halfway mark.

Daire’s grandmother gave me the creeps all throughout this book. I couldn’t stand her at all. I also found it weird how quickly they bonded. This was the first time that Daire and her grandmother had EVER met. I’m talking 16 years of communication. The beginning stated that the grandmother had a reason for this, but I failed to see or understand it. I thought a lot more explanation was needed, and I wasn’t thrilled at how quickly they became comfortable with one another. I also thought that Daire got too comfortable with the whole seeker idea way too fast. Yes, she had some struggles with it at first, but I thought that she should have had more of them. If some lady just popped into my life and told me that I was some seeker type thing that needed to start saving souls, I would have laughed in her face. Seriously? Weird.

The relationship between Dace and Daire was really awkward for me. They really didn’t get much one on one time throughout most of the book, and then BAM! Their romance was quickly crammed into a few chapters at the very end. I didn’t like that. I would have preferred a smooth romance that slowly progressed throughout the whole book. I didn’t get that, and I wish that I would have.

I really found this book hard to enjoy, which is upsetting since I really loved the first half of the book. Unfortunately, the last half of the book was so weird that the first half of the book couldn’t make up for it. The first and second halves of the book were also SO different that it felt like they could be two separate books. Maybe Echo will be more enjoyable to read, but I was really let down by Fated. I will say that this book had a similar feel to Amy Plums Die for Me series, so fans of that series might greatly enjoy this series by Alyson Noel

“Oh, so you GOOGLED him Oh, well, that changes everything then, doesn’t it? What could I possibly worry about now that I know you’ve conducted such a thorough Internet search?”
