I never believed in ghosts. Until one tried to kill me.
When Kennedy Waters finds her mother dead, her world begins to unravel. She doesn’t know that paranormal forces in a much darker world are the ones pulling the strings. Not until identical twins Jared and Lukas Lockhart break into Kennedy’s room and destroy a dangerous spirit sent to kill her. The brothers reveal that her mother was part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the world from a vengeful demon — a society whose five members were all murdered on the same night.
Now Kennedy has to take her mother’s place in the Legion if she wants to uncover the truth and stay alive. Along with new Legion members Priest and Alara, the teens race to find the only weapon that might be able to destroy the demon — battling the deadly spirits he controls every step of the way.
Suspense, romance, and the paranormal meet in this chilling urban fantasy, the first book in a new series from Kami Garcia, bestselling coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures novels.
Holy smoking potatoes, I LOVED this book. I haven’t been able to say that in awhile, huh? I just want to shout it. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I will admit, the cover is a tiny bit confusing. I still can’t really place how it relates to the book, but that doesn’t even matter! This was….amazing. spectacular. all those stupid filler words that people use when they run out of words to talk about how great a book is. I LOVED this one!
Unbreakable is a mixture of Cassandra Clare meets Kelley Armstrong meets Rachel Caine. It’s a book that I could totally see being made into a TV show or a movie. It’s about a girl named Kennedy who just lost her mom to some freak heart failure. The next thing she knows, two random boys are breaking into her house and killing a spirit who has been sent by some demon to kill her. And the crazy part? That same spirit killed her mom. Now Kennedy is on the run with four teenagers fighting evil spirits and trying to find out where she belongs, as well as her family history. Unbreakable is full of action and suspense. I was on my toes and completely freaked out more than once. It was just, yes, amazing!
There were a couple things in this book that bothered me a little bit. 1) I didn’t love the love triangle. It’s not only that I don’t like Luk’s character, but I really just want to see more Jared and Kennedy…and I’m not the biggest fan of love triangles. 2) some sections were a little difficult to follow…but that really didn’t affect the overall book. 3) This got better in the last half, but whenever I picked the book back up it took me awhile to get back into it. Other than those 3 minor details, I loved it.
Unbreakable is super spooky and action packed. TBH, it scared the shit out of me more than once. I’m surprised I didn’t scream like a little girl. The ghost scenes were awesome and made me turn on every single light in the house. And it wasn’t just one or two of those scenes. There were a TON! It was freaking awesome!
This is one of those reviews where I don’t know what else to say except how awesome this book was. I AM SO ready for the next book! I probably have to wait like a year, huh? That sucks. I want it now. Everyone needs to go out and read this book asap. It’s great for Halloween and so unpredictable! I loved it!
