Top Ten Things I Like/Dislike When It Comes To Romances In Books

Top Ten TuesdayHi, everyone! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic is Top Ten Things I Like/Dislike When It Comes To Romances In Books.

1 Insta-love – life doesn’t even happen that way. It’s unrealistic.

2 Whiny girls – seriously….female authors, especially, are making us look bad. We do NOT act that way

3 pregnancy and marriage by the third book – There’s more to life than getting knocked up and married…..especially by the third book.

4 the army scene – I know it’s horrible, but I’m sick of it. I have nothing against the army, but it’s not working in romance books for the YA or NA genre. It’s too predictable and unoriginal.

5 Lack of originality – Several romance books seem to follow the same layout. I’m sick of reading the same thing over and over again. Authors, please come up with something new and original.

6 The sexy scenes – I mean, really, who doesn’t like those scenes?

7 LGBTQ romances – I love it when authors branch out and challenge themselves with LGBTQ romances

8 Heart pounding moments – A lot of romance books don’t have these moments. I love the suspense and the tears.

9 Serious contemporary – I usually don’t read contemporary romance because I HATE cheese. Authors such as John Green and Gayle Forman bring about the serious side of writing that I enjoy reading.

10 An older audience – Romance is really more for the older crowd. I like when the writing reflects that.

  1. I wish there was a like button so I can like this post. I agree 100% with the insta-love. I just wrote a review on a book that has insta-love and I didn’t like that aspect. I got insulted and hated over it, which led me to write another post on that. But seriously, I can understand the insta-love in teens because they think they are in love but in adults..especially one that is engaged in the story and falls immediately for another…just no..please no.
