The Host: A Movie

We understand that we’re a little slow on the uptake with this one, but Stephenie Meyer has announced that her only non-Twilight related book, The Host, is officially being made into a film.

From Stephenie Meyer’s website:

“I’m so excited to be working with Nick Weschler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They’ve all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we’re in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you’ve never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It’s such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I’m having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn’t take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I’m looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.”

So what do we think Meyer fans? Love it, or hate it?

  • I just can’t see them making this a success..there won’t be a lot of action because so much of what goes on with one of the “characters” is just thoughts….how much voice over can you have??? Loved the book but not sure how it would translate to big screen.

  • I loved this book so much more than Twilight. Depending on the trailers I see, I may or may not go see this. I just don’t want the movie to make me like the book even less.

  • go ahead and ruin it then.
The Host is way better than twilight and a movie would just kill it.

  • I’m not going to write it off just yet, but I honestly can’t see how it will work. How are they going to portray two characters in the one body? This is my biggest concern at the moment. Movie people, if you’re reading this, we’d love you to release a press statement outlining how you’re planning to do this. It would great ease my churning stomach.

  • Mmm. I can’t really see them making this a success unless they change the book pretty drastically… Will they have her switch characters, from Mel to Wanda, like someone with multi personality disorder? That’d be weird.
And they’ll probably cut down the first half of the book a lot and make it way more action-y. With all the changes they’ll have to make, I’m not sure if I’ll like it much… It’s exciting though, right? =)

  • I am really looking forward to see “the Host” as a movie! Sure, there will be some things that will be hard to solve, but this is such a good book that the movie has to be good too.
And since they made so much money from Twilight, they will probably use a lot of money on this movie, and then it will be easier to make! :)
But, hey, I can totally see what you all mean…

  • Everyone always try to compare a movie with the book or vise versa. This is something that you cannot do and i know everyone loves to. But a movie and a book are both totally different view and dialoge. Books are meant to go in depth to give everyone back ground on what is really happening. A movie on the other hand is written by some one totally different. Hence thats why they say based on the novel by….. a movie has a totally diffent writer that trys to stay as close to the book as possible but is not meant to mimic the book 100%. Movies are used to give guide lines of what could have happened betwen the lines. I have read all the book Stephenie has written and watched all the movies out so far and i love them all. with different reasons and aspecs. I haven’t read a book in 21 years until i started with the Twilight series on July 4th 2010. Stephenie has made me a reader. I love her work and i love that she can think outside the box on everything that she does. Not everyone will like her stuff and that is a given because everyone has different options. Not every one is meant to think the same. Just think that if you really like something that not everyone is going to have the same views. But never the less i can respect everyones options but there is no reason to have hate against some body just because you do not like their work.
