I found this book completely frustrating and obnoxious. When I finished it, I felt like my time had been wasted. The ending felt tacked on and like it went against most of the conclusions the rest of the book had drawn.

What on earth is the author trying to argue here? We see proof after proof after proof that the medical/biotech industry has gone off the rails in this universe, bacteria and viruses that can't be medicated, food crops that are tainted, etc. Why does the character who believes in governmental regulation get made over into a freaky blue-goo girl herself, and we get no explanation of how this is reconciled?

What about the tremendous privilege required for someone to receive such a procedure? Either the author did a lousy job of making Jenna the antagonist who we are supposed to scorn (made her too neutral, instead of more dis-likable), OR she is an amoral Big-Pharma sympathizer.

SERIOUSLY!

It's been a while since I've read this book, but I do remember that I was very impressed by it. I liked the slow exposition, it was sort of mysterious and subtly thrilling. It kept me guessing. And maybe it's just because I haven't read too many sci-fiish books before, but I found the the whole concept of the book to be very interesting and different.
I like this book :)

wow, i'm surprised this book got such a bad reveiw. i really enjoyed this book, and while i was also a little impateint in the begining i think it was worth it. i loved the writing style used, and the voice and mood created. the issues jenna tackled were also really thought provoking, and i dont mean the illegal part, i mean the am-i-a-person-do-i-have-a-soul? part. i did an oral book report on this book, and i'v recomended it to every one of my friends.

Same here. Everywhere I went, everyone was saying how good it was. But it left me feeling a little blah, you know?

My thoughts exactly. I've heard almost all RAVES about this book, so I was surprised by how little the novel did for me.
