Character Interview with Serena

Describe yourself in five words

Only five words! By the grace, here I go: Loyal. Free-spirited. Strong. Haunted. Smart.

How did you come to be at The Royal Protector Academy? Is that where you met Tristan?

Yes! Tristan and I met at The Royal Protector Academy. My family, the London clan of gargoyles, started the academy. My dad and uncles sent me to study there two years ago when I turned eighteen. I’ve been here since, where I recently met Tristan.

What is your favorite thing about Tristan?

Tristan has this tiny scar on his upper lip that I love. It draws me to his mouth. I can’t explain it. It’s just…sexy on him.

Would you consider Tristan to be more of a charmer or a jackwad?

*laughs* Oh, Tristan Gallagher is a total jackwad. No question.

Where would we find you on a Friday night?

I love to party. On Friday nights, you can find me drinking with friends at a bonfire.

Celebrity Crush?

Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I have a thing for sexy, bad-boy-types.

Who is your best friend?

Magali is my best friend. We’ve known one another since we were five. Mags and I met in kindergarten. It’s been best-friend-sister-love ever since. We’re rooming together at RPA.

What’s the Royal Protector Academy like? What do you DO there?

The Academy is rigorous. It’s similar to human colleges. Only instead of PE we have protector training sessions against demons and supernatural creatures. The best-of-the-best protectors are chosen to attend. If they successfully graduate, they’re given high-level protector assignments. I train and learn., in preparation to be the next leader of the gargoyle race. Or so I thought…

Do you have any specialness we should know about? Powers, etc?

Like my mother Abby, I’m an elemental gargoyle. I can manipulate the wind, rain, etc. There are other gargoyle gifts and powers that I have, but because I am royal blood, I can’t discuss them.

What are we going to see from you and Tristan in the future? Do you HAVE a future?

Tristan and I are…complicated. Our future is even more so. There is a lot going against us. I’m not sure we have a future together. What I can say, we’re enjoying the ride while it lasts.

Few questions for Tristan:

Describe yourself in five words

Five words, huh? Royal. Good-looking. Self-assured. Dark. Annoyed.

What is your favorite thing about Serena?

I love Serena’s free-spirit.

What are readers going to like the most about you?

That’s a loaded question. I’m really not all that likable. I tend to be on-edge because I have a lot on my plate right now. Nor am I winning any nice-guy awards. I am loyal. I do care deeply. I will protect those I love. So if you’re into that, I’m your guy.

Thanks for having Tristan and Serena today!

Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies Blog Tour: Character Interview with Harper

Author: Laura Stampler

Release Date: July 19, 2016

Publisher: Simon Pulse

Pages: 352

Formats: Hardcover, eBook

The Devil Wears Prada meets Sex and the City in a wickedly funny debut novel about a girl who lands a dream internship at a magazine in New York City. If only she hadn’t lied about being a dating expert on her resume . .

Harper Anderson has always thought she should have been born somewhere more glamorous than her sleepy Northern California suburb. After all, how many water polo matches and lame parties in Bobby McKittrick’s backyard can one girl take?

Already resigned to working at a Skinny B’s Juice Press for the summer, Harper is shocked when the ultra-prestigious teen magazine, Shift, calls to say they want her to be their teen dating blogger for the summer. All she needs to do is get her butt to New York in two days.

There’s just one teeny, tiny problem: Apart from some dance floor make-outs, Harper doesn’t have a whole lot of dating experience. So when Shift’s application asked for an “edgy” personal essay, Harper might have misappropriated her best friend’s experiences for her own. But she can just learn on the job…right? Will the house of lies Harper has built around her dream job collapse all around her, or will she be able to fake it until she makes it in the big city?

Character Interview with Harper (in June, right after Harper started the internship)

Describe California in 5 words.

Juice bars. Water polo. (But also) Home.

See? There’s some sentimentality underneath my snarky exterior.

What was it like moving to New York for the Summer?

Ever since I heard my mom’s stories about going to grad school in New York, I’ve dreamed of living in the city. It’s the epicenter of writing, theater, art — and don’t even get me started on the food. Even the street hot dogs are a revelation.

Still, finding out you got an internship in your dream city at the very last minute and having only two days to mentally prepare (and physically pack) for your cross country trip was… overwhelming to say the least.

Tell us, what exactly does a dating blogger do?

Umm, I had the exact same question. My editor McKayla says that my job is to be “edgy.” I have to go on dates that people want to read about… or die trying. (Because if people don’t click on my blog posts, McKayla will stab me with her eyeliner pencil.)

Are you going out on a bunch of hot dates? Lame dates?

I have my eye on a few hot prospects… but so far my experiences have been on the lukewarm side.

Can you give us a teaser of one of the dates you’ll go on?

Would you believe me if I told you that I guy I thought was flirting with me was actually trying to get me to join his cult? New York can be weird. Boys can be weird. Or maybe I’m just weird?

When you eventually become a writer do you want to write for Shift or another magazine? Or do you want to work somewhere else?

I know you don’t win Pulitzers for dating blogs, but I hope that my writing career can take me down that path one day.

Why do you want to become a writer?

I honestly can’t imagine myself doing anything else. I always have a running narrative of the things I see and people I interact with playing silently in my head that I can’t wait to jot down in my Moleskine notebook.

Do you think you’ll ever officially move to New York?

One thousand percent. (Just don’t tell my parents. They have attachment issues.)

Tell us, will you meet “the one” in New York?

Let me worry about not humiliating myself in front of “the many” first.

What have you taken away from working for Shift magazine?

Besides a lot of free snacks from the open kitchen?

Ok, joking aside, I think that Shift has taught me that there’s a whole lot more to people and situations than meets the eye.

What’s next for you?

I’m open to any and all new adventures.

2016 Debut Authors Bash: J. Keller Ford + Character Interview!

Debut Banner

3955253J. (Jenny) Keller Ford is a scribbler of speculative fiction and YA tales. As an Army brat, she traveled the world and wandered the halls of some of Germany’s most extraordinary castles in hopes of finding snarky dragons, chivalrous knights, and wondrous magic to permeate her imagination. What she found remains etched in her topsy-turvy mind and oozes out in sweeping tales of courage, sacrifice, honor and everlasting love.

When not torturing her keyboard or trying to silence the voices in her head, Jenny spends time collecting seashells, bowling, screaming on roller coasters and traveling. She is a mom to four magnificent and noble offspring, and currently lives in paradise in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area on the west coast of Florida with a menagerie of royal pets, and her own quirky knight who was brave enough to marry her.

Her YA fantasy novel, IN THE SHADOW OF THE DRAGON KING, Book 1 in the Chronicles of Fallhollow trilogy, is slated for paperback and ebook release on May 31, 2016. Published short stories include “The Amulet of Ormisez” (MAKE BELIEVE anthology), “Dragon Flight” (ONE MORE DAY anthology), and “The Passing of Millie Hudson” (READING GLASSES anthology), which you can find on the “Books” page of this website. – See more at: http://www.j-keller-ford.com/about.html#sthash.8upH0Cdu.dpuf

Read below for a special character interview with Eric!

Hi, Eric, welcome to the blog! How are you doing today?

“I am well, my lady, taking into consideration we are at war with the Dragon King. It’s not exactly a picnic on a sunny day by the Cloverleaf River.” He shifts in the chair, leans forward, and cocks an eyebrow. “But I must ask. What is a blog? Is it a tavern?”

I have to ask, and will probably offend you at the same time, but what the heck does a squire even do?

“I am not offended by your question at all. It is quite typical for a girl such as yourself to not understand the duties of such a position. After all, a day of preening and gossip doesn’t allow for much else, I suppose.” I stare at him, unsure if it is my turn to be offended. Eric rises, all six, feet of him, and stands before the window, his dark hair shimmering in the sunlight. I allow a moment to take him all in. Wide shoulders, taut muscles. Lips that scream kiss me, and trust me I would if I were seventeen. His low, melodic voice snaps me from my daydream. “Squires are extremely important to the knights they serve. We attend to the knight’s horses. We dress the knights in their armour before battle or tournament. We guard prisoners, ensure our Master’s weapons are clean and sharp. We might even be asked upon to do various jobs about the castle, such as helping out the kitchen staff or changing bedsheets, for example.” He turns to me, his green eyes twinkling with humor to match the smile on his face. “I, however, don’t do much of that sort of thing, as I am a squire of the body to the most revered knight ever to live in all of Fallhollow, Sir Trogsdill Domnall. I’m sure you’ve heard of him.”

Yeah. uh huh. I shift in my seat. Moving on. How are you and David getting along? Would you consider yourselves best friends at first sight? [;

“Me? David? Best friends?” Boisterous, hearty  laughter fills the room. “Oh good heavens no.” More laughter. It’s contagious. I find myself smiling. I don’t want to. “David is a strange lad to be sure. He tries to be all bip and pow, but to be honest, he’s sort of a runt with a snippy attitude. Don’t get me wrong. He’s nice and all, but he’s not built for this war stuff. I expected more than I got, though I do have to say the boy can run. He’s not too bad with a bow and arrow, either. Don’t let it be said that I don’t give credit where it’s due. That doesn’t mean we’re best friends.”

Be honest, what’s your LEAST favorite thing about David?

“He’s cocky and arrogant and he has this odd, peculiar way of speaking that grates my nerves. He is also friends with this amazing girl, Charlotte, whom I’d like to become better acquainted, but I suspect there is more going on between them. Until I know for certain, I must keep my distance, which is difficult as she is quite captivating. Her eyes, however, are for David alone, for reasons only the heavens can understand, and until that changes, I must remain distant. I respect him enough to not interfere in matters of the heart. Besides, we have other things to worry about, like what to do with the dragon in Berg Castle.”

Dude, you got to meet dragons??? What was it like? Did you get to ride it?! YOU DIDN’T ACTUALLY KILL THE DRAGON, RIGHT?!

“Girl, have you lost your mind? We’re talking about Einar. He’s hundreds of feet long, just as wide and near as tall! You don’t ride him, and yes! We intend to kill him. He’s a vile beast and I can’t wait to take that long sinuous neck right off his body.”

Okaaay. Moving on. If you, David, and Charlotte had to dress up as a theme for Halloween, what would you all go as?

I explain.

Eric paces the room, his hand cupping his chin as if in deep thought. “Hmm, I suppose I’d dress as the king, Charlotte would be my queen, and David would be the court jester.”

That’s not very nice I tell him, but he just grins and my heart puddles.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

“Hypocrisy, without a doubt. This do as I tell you, not as I do train of thought is dragon dung. You want me to learn, you want me to be the best I can be, lead by example. Don’t speak words out of one side of your mouth and do something completely different. That’s like telling a child not to hit someone while you’re hitting him. Grrr. There’s nothing that burns me more.”

What is your favorite thing about Charlotte?

“Her fire. It exudes from her even when she says nothing at all. I like that.”

Be honest, are readers going to like YOU or DAVID more?

He chuckles that soft laugh of his. “Of course they’re going to like me more. I’ve impeccable manners. I’m educated. I’m trained in warfare. I can ride a horse. I believe myself to have integrity and a sense of humor. What is there not to like?”

Yes. what indeed. I smile. Next question. If you had to ask the author a favor for the next book, what might you ask her?

“Wow, that’s a tough one. I think I’d like to go back in time. See my mother as she was when she was young. Attend Trog’s adoubement ceremony. Maybe write out David for a while and let me get to know Charlotte better without his hovering presence. Of course, more than anything, I’d like the knights and Trog to see me as something more than a glorified valet. Recognize my potential. See me for what and who I am and respect me. That would mean everything.”

Are we going to see more of you?! [;

“Oh yes, my lady. I’m not going anywhere.”

Thanks for stopping by!

“The pleasure was mine.”

YOU GUYS! I LAUGHED SO HARD! For real…..BEST character interview I’ve EVER done with an author! I LOVED THIS!

in the shadowSeventeen-year-old, Eric, is a kick-butt squire to the most revered knight in Fallhollow. Well he would be if Sir Trogsdill allowed him to do anything even remotely awesome. Determined to prove his worth, Eric sets out to find the mythical paladin summoned to protect the realm from the evil lurking nearby.

Sixteen-year-old, David, spends his days collecting school honors, winning archery tournaments, and trying not to fall in love with his scrappy best friend, Charlotte.

Right when things start to get interesting, he is whisked away to the magical realm of Fallhollow where everyone thinks he’s some sort of paladin destined to fulfill a two-hundred-year-old prophecy. He’s supposed to help kill a dragon with some sort of magic key. The same key that happens to adorn the neck of an annoying squire who’s too wrapped up in proving himself to be much help to anyone.

With egos as big as the dragon they need to destroy, Eric and David must get over themselves, or watch everything they know and love, burn.

The Treatment Blog Tour: Character Interview with Suzanne Young

Hi everyone! Welcome back!

I am so excited to be on The Treatment Blog Tour! I read The Program a couple weeks ago and OH MY GOODNESS. So much happens during that book! I’m excited to read The Treatment and see what’s up next for Sloane and James. Make sure you read The Program and check out The Treatment when it hits stores on April 29th!

unnamed (1)The Treatment

Can Sloane and James survive the lies and secrets surrounding them, or will The Program claim them in the end? Find out in this sequel to The Program, which Publishers Weekly called “chilling and suspenseful.”

How do you stop an epidemic?

Sloane and James are on the run after barely surviving the suicide epidemic and The Program. But they’re not out of danger. Huge pieces of their memories are still missing, and although Sloane and James have found their way back to each other, The Program isn’t ready to let them go.

Escaping with a group of troubled rebels, Sloane and James will have to figure out who they can trust, and how to take down The Program. But for as far as they’ve come, there’s still a lot Sloane and James can’t remember. The key to unlocking their past lies with the Treatment—a pill that can bring back forgotten memories, but at a high cost. And there’s only one dose.

Ultimately when the stakes are at their highest, can Sloane and James survive the many lies and secrets surrounding them, or will The Program claim them in the end?

And nooooow for the character interview!

(After The Program, before The Treatment)

My first few questions are for Sloane:

What is next for you and James?

We run. The Program is after us, and now we can’t go back home. I’m not sure we ever will. In the meantime, we’ll make our own home—withThe Program each other. At least… for as long as we’re free.

Do you think that you will ever be able to forgive your parents for what they did to you?

Yes, but first they’d have to see what the Program has done to us. They’d have to understand how I’ve been hurt, damaged. I’ll never be able to trust again. The Program has changed me. I need them to understand that before I forgive them.

At the end of The Program you had decided not to take the pill that would restore your memories. Don’t you think that you’re owed the truth?

Right now, I don’t know what’s true. I want to be me—but what if who I am now disappears when I take that pill? Changes the way I feel about myself, about James. I can’t take that chance. I just want to live.

What are your true feelings toward Realm?

I don’t know. He’s my friend, my best friend from what I can remember. But I know he’s keeping secrets from me. But at this point… who isn’t?

My next questions are for James:

Now that you’re reunited with Sloane, what are your feelings toward her?

How dirty can I make this? Keep it appropriate—okay. I think she’s a smartass, a rebel—the kind of girl who can get me killed. So obviously I’m completely mad about her.

Do you remember her even just a little?

No. I don’t remember shit.

If you had the chance to restore your memories would you do it?

In a heartbeat. I deserve the truth.

What is your next plan? Fight or hide?

If it was just me, I’d fight. But first I have to make sure Sloane is safe from the Program. Even if I have to take them down myself.

My next couple questions are for Sloane’s mom.

Do you feel justified in your decision about what you did to Sloane?

What I did? I saved her life. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made, but I love my daughter. I watched for weeks as she got sicker and sicker–there WAS no other choice.

Why do you believe so firmly in the Program?

Because Lacey Klamath is still alive and my son is not. I would do anything for my children—anything. This is the one chance we have, and if we get it wrong, they die. The Program saves lives. Sometimes the end justifies the means.

Obviously Sloane does not agree with your decision. Based on that information, would you do it to her again?

I would. I will always choose my child, and I’d rather have her hate me than dead.

When you noticed that Sloane had forgotten all about her past were you at all concerned?

Of course, but we can give her back some of what she lost. We can build new memories.

My last few questions are for Suzanne Young herself

What is with that ending?!?! What’s going to happen? Is everyone going to get a happy ending? I demand answers!

The end of The Program has Sloane and James on the run. There is an epilogue with a girl named Ally, but it’s there to show what Realm is up to, and how he still thinks of Sloane, how he really does love her the best way he can.

The Treatment picks up right where The Program left off, Sloane and James running. Along the way they meet up with some rebels. People lie. People get taken back to The Program. It’s a footrace, and no… not everyone will be happy. But the overall series is meant to be hopeful.

Is The Treatment going to be the last book in the series or will it continue on?

Right now it’s the last book. Sloane and James’s story is wrapped up.

What is your favorite scene or quote from The Treatment?

“My boyfriend is the biggest liar I’ve ever known. But it does it with the best of intentions.”

Character Interview with Heidi Acosta

Heidi Acosta was born on Long Island, New York. Moving around a lot when she was younger, she has lived in New York, Arizona, New York (again), Washington, Georgia, and Florida, in that order. Each place offered her something special, but she will always consider New York her home.
Heidi started writing as soon as she could spell. When she was three, Heidi’s mother gave her a copy of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods; thus beginning her lifelong love affair with literature.
Writing soon also became a form of therapy for Heidi, when she realized that no matter what was happening in her life, she could find emotional escape while writing. Some of her earliest stories featured her as a princess who explored new worlds with her horse Buttercup. If it sounds romantic, it wasn’t, there was no prince charming in those fairy lands (boys where yucky).
Heidi now resides in Florida with her husband, very active daughter, one hyper Chihuahua, two sweet cats, and one very fat moody cat.
Barbie Girl is the first Novel of Heidi’s new, four-book, Baby Doll Series: Barbie Girl, Barbie World, Doll Face, and Southern Sugar.

Character Interview

with Barbie

When Dylan first started tutoring you, you didn’t seem all that impressed with him. When did you first start noticing your feelings toward him?

He was such a pretentious ass. Can I say ass? Well he was an ass munch. It was not until I saw him with Emmy that things started to change. Any guy that lets his little sister dress him up, can’t be that much of an ass. But I think I always had feelings for him, ever since I was a little girl. They were just awoken when I saw him with her. And the boy has great abs.

I would say that Dylan seems pretty uptight. Do you think we’ll get to see him loosen up in the future?

I hope so that boy is wound as tighter than a rubber band. And any one wound that tight is about to snap.

The ending of Barbie Girl didn’t look all that promising for you and Dylan. What’s going to be your next move?16127403

Dylan had his chance and he betrayed me. Okay, so I know he didn’t really have a choice and if I was in his shoes I would do the same exact thing. But everything was just so confusing and I have to think of Everett first. So my next move is to just breathe and figure out how I am going live under the same roof as him. And that boy is not making it easy.

Your home life situation wasn’t all that great. Actually, it was horrible. If you could say one thing to your mother (and have her actually listen) what would it be?

I would want to know what made her chose drugs over Everett and I. She never spoke much of her past but I know something bad had to happen to make her try to numb her pain the way she does.

What’s one thing about you that we don’t know?

I have a tattoo. But I am not going to say where or what 😉

What can we expect from you in Barbie World?

I am bound and determined to find out where I came from.  I need to find the woman who abandoned my mother and get the questions I have answered.

If you could describe your experience in Barbie Girl with one word, what would it be?

Well there are a few four letter words I would use, but since I can’t say them… Heartbreaking.

Character Interview with Amber Garr

Character Interview:

Marguerite Dumahl

Were you forced to marry your husband? Did you originally love him or did you come to love him? Ours was an arranged marriage but we grew to love each other very much. I had my heart set on someone else for a long time, but in the end Charles and I made a good match.

At what age did you become a clan leader? I was seventeen. Younger than Eviana, but I’d been ready to accept the challenge with my husband by my side.

What must you give up in order to become a great leader? You have to accept the decisions you make, knowing not everyone will agree. It is a difficult position to be in, but you must do what’s best for the good of your clan.

You’re daughter, Eviana, does not want to marry Kain. What are your thoughts on that?

Kain is an excellent leader and Eviana should be delighted to marry him. She may not love him yet, but I can see the potential. She has no future with that selkie and the sooner she realizes this, the better.

Would you consider Eviana’s relationship with Brendan love or lust? I think she loves him, but it will never work. He will leave her eventually and she refuses to understand this. It is in every selkie’s future and no amount of teenage love will change his natural instincts.

Would you say that you are proud of Eviana? I am very proud of her. She may push me to my limits, but I admire her tenacity and strength. There is so much of me in her…

You shunned Eviana when she ran away. Would you stand by that decision? I have to. Whether I wanted to do this or not, it was a time to do what was needed for my clan. If I wouldn’t have been strong and stayed true to my words, I would have lost the respect and power of my people at a time when I couldn’t afford to do so.

Eviana has now been forced to hold an insane amount of responsibility. Do you have any advice for her? Use the strength of your friendships and think every decision through rationally. It is a very tough position, especially at her young age, but I trust that she will be a capable and valued leader. She has power like no other, and I believe she will learn to pull from that.

If you could say one more thing to Eviana, what would it be? I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t get to teach you more, or train you more, or hold you again. I wish I could be there for you now.

Character Interview with the Commander:

How many years have you ruled over Baalboden?

50. I’ve been in charge of these people since the Cursed One destroyed our world.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Strong. Uncompromising. Dedicated.

What are your reasons for hating Logan? Is it simply because his mother defied your laws?

Logan is a piece of trash on the bottom of my boot, but you haven’t earned the right to ask me why I hate him. I don’t explain myself to anyone.

Now that the citizens have fled Baalboden would you consider yourself powerless?

You are only powerless when you give up your right to power. I haven’t given up anything. And I am far from powerless. Do you really think I don’t already have a plan in place to redress this situation and come out far stronger than I ever was to begin with?

What do you have in store for Rachel, the girl who went against you at every opportunity?

Death. A long, slow, tortuous death that will be remembered for decades to come.

Do you know if there is more than one Cursed One?

I believe there are, though we only ever see one at a time.

Why does the Cursed One fear you?

Because I know how to keep it away from me. And no, I won’t share that secret with you. Secrets equal power, and we’ve already discussed the fact that I don’t give my power away to anyone.

What can we expect from you in book 2?

An unswerving dedication to righting the wrongs done to me and to punishing the offenders in ways that will serve as a lesson to anyone who might consider crossing me again.
