YA Movie Review: Catching Fire

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Every Thanksgiving is very simple at my house. This year it’s just me and my mom…and then later with my dad and grandpa. We usually celebrate with tons of food, and (of course!) football. Lots and lots of football. But one thing that has always been a tradition for both Thanksgiving and Christmas is that my mom and I will always go see a movie. I actually know what both of those movies are already, too. This weekend we are going to go watch Black Nativity with Jennifer Hudson, and on Christmas we are going to go watch Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas. I’m the biggest Tyler Perry fan.

Last weekend we went and watched Catching Fire. And since my family celebrates holidays with a movie, I thought that I would share my thoughts of Catching Fire with all of you. And who knows? Maybe you’ll make a new tradition this Thanksgiving and go watch it. Or…you can go watch Black Nativity and tell me all your thoughts!

CF1I was nervous about Catching Fire. I really was. Hunger Games was good…but not great. It left a lot out from the book. I thought that this one would be pretty similar. And then I started to hear the reviews. And I did not hear one bad thing. In fact, I had two people tell me that Catching Fire was ten times better than the first movie. One person who didn’t even like the first movie loved Catching Fire. And when I reached the theaters, the ticket holder went on for about 10 minutes telling me how awesome this movie was.

And my thoughts? They were 100% correct.

What I liked:

1: Finnick. Oh. My. Goodness. HE WAS PERFECT.

2. The beginning. I hated the first half of Catching Fire (book.) I thought that they did a fabulous job in the movie.

3. Johanna. Holy smokes. She was probably the best character in the whole damn movie.

4. Every single cast member. My only complaint is that some of the districts had really small roles. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the books, but I thought that the scarier tributes had a slightly bigger role than they played in the movie.

5. The action. If you’ve read the book recently, then you might be able to pinpoint things that weren’t accurate. It’s been at least 2 years since I’ve read Catching Fire. I wasn’t even blogging when I read the series. So, I wasn’t able to pinpoint those moments. That being said, I loved all the action. There was one scene where I jumped like 5 feet high. Scared the shit out of me.

6. The emotion. The first movie pissed me off, because I should have cried. Especially during Rue’s scene. I was having to lock up my throat to keep from bawling like a baby. There were a few scenes that really got to me.

What I didn’t like:

The ONLY thing that bugged me was the final scene with Cinna. I do not remember that happening in book 2. I thought that it was vaguely mentioned in book 3. Now, my mom remembered that happening in book 2…so I don’t know. I’m really confused over that scene.

I also didn’t like how Finnick’s girlfriend (I forgot her name) had a very brief role. Maybe that’s because I’m mixing book 2 and 3 together? I wish that they would have shown her for more than 5 seconds. She was only in one brief scene.

My final complaint really isn’t a complaint. I just kind of wish that we would have seen more of District 13 at the end. But I really did like the ending.

Overall? 10 out of 5 stars. I LOVED IT. Best movie adaptation I have ever seen. Not counting Lord of the Rings…I haven’t read those books!

Catching Fire to Begin Filming Soon

Fans of The Hunger Games trilogy have been waiting around impatiently for news of the upcoming movie, Catching Fire. There was that big hoopla over Gary Ross leaving and Francis Lawrence coming in. Fans began to worry that the filming for Catching Fire would be set back.

Woody Harrelson, the actor who plays Haymitch in The Hunger Games, recently did an interview with CBS. He announced that filming for Catching Fire would begin in September. The shooting will take place in Atlanta and Hawaii. You can find that video here. Note: Catching Fire news is during the last one minute of the video. The rest of the video is dedicated to another movie of Harrelson’s.

Are you guys excited? I know that I am! I cannot WAIT to see Catching Fire hit the big screen!

That’s all for now, folks. See you next time!

Romeo Miller Interested in Catching Fire/Mockingjay

Romeo Miller Interested in Catching Fire/Mockingjay

Romeo Miller recently gave an interview with MTV where he stated that he would be interested in filming in The Hunger Games trilogy. Miller announced that he had a meeting with Lionsgate about appearing in the next film, but he was unable to give any more information than that. Romeo also mentioned that he had NOT read any of The Hunger Games books. You can find the MTV interview here.

Romeo Miller has appeared in Honey, Romeo!, The Defenders, Charlie’s Angels (the tv series) and Madea’s Witness Protection. Romeo Miller is also a singer and has his own clothing line.

I can’t really picture Romeo Miller in any role for either Catching Fire or Mockingjay. The interview made it seem as if he just wanted that “it” role, rather than having any real interest in the trilogy. I was also really put off by the fact that he hadn’t read the books. Why the heck are you interested in a major BOOK-movie when you HAVEN’T read the books? Ugh!

Sound off in the comments, guys.

That’s all for now, folks. See you next time!

Sam Claflin Cast as Finnick Odair!

Well, hellllllllllllllllo, handsome! Ladies and gentlemen, meet Sam Clafin, our Finnick Odair! It has been such a long wait to find out who would be playing Finnick in Catching Fire. Honestly, I’m not disappointed. He is pretty. And, as Finnick is my favorite character in The Hunger Games trilogy, I’m glad that Lionsgate got it right!

Sam Claflin might look familiar to you, as he recently starred as William in Snow White and the Huntsman. Claflin has also appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Any Human Heart, and The Lost Future.

What do you guys think about Sam Claflin as Finnick? I know that a lot of people are probably going to be upset, as they had specific actors they wanted cast as Finnick Odair. I’m hoping that there will also be a lot of people that approve of this casting choice.

I found my information here, among many more websites.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Cast In Catching Fire

Entertainment Weekly has announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to play the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) — a competition that could change Panem forever.

Shooting is scheduled to start later in the year.

Personally, I’m stoked. Hoffman is a phenomenal actor. What do you guys think? Yay, or nay?

Taylor Kitsch Refuses Catching Fire

Taylor Kitsch Refuses Catching Fire

I’m not very familiar with Taylor Kitsch, but, apparently, everyone wanted him to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire. Well, I’m sorry to say that that is not going to happen. When the LA Times asked Kitsch about playing Odair he replied, ” “Not going to happen.”

Taylor Kitsch has starred in Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins- Wolverine, John Tucker Must Die, Snakes on a Plane, John Carter, Battleship and Savages. It appears as if Kitsch is going to be appearing in a movie, called Lone Survivor, which would interfere with the production of Catching Fire.

What do you guys think about this? Was your heart set on Taylor Kitsch playing Odair? Do you have someone else you’re rooting for? I found my information here.

Jena Malone a Contender for Johanna Mason in Catching Fire

Jena Malone a Contender for Johanna Mason in Catching Fire

Everyone is going crazy waiting for the casting news for Catching Fire. Two of the major roles that everyone is waiting to be cast are of Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason. While the casting of Finnick Odair is still a mystery there seems to be an actress being majorly looked at for the role of Johanna Mason. Meet Jena Malone.

Jena Malone has starred in Stepmom, For Love of the Game, Cold Mountain, Pride and Prejudice and Sucker Punch. In my opinion, Jenna Malone is the PERFECT Johanna Mason. She has the spunk, skill and attitude that I believe Johanna Mason’s character needs.

Mia Wasikowska was rumored to be a major contender for the role of Johanna Mason. It turns out that Mia was never approached about the role. Even if she were approached about the movie, her schedule does not permit her to be apart of the franchise. You can find that information here.

What do you guys think about Jena Malone as Johanna Mason? Is there someone else entirely that you want to be cast as Johanna Mason? Let me know in the comment section below!
