This is my first official post for YA Reads (other than TTT) and I am so excited to join this already fabulous team! I though I’d start with an recap of a Sarah J. Maas signing I went to recently.
Sarah J. Maas is the author of the absolutely wonderful Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series (all links lead to Goodreads). If you haven’t picked up either of these series yet I would definitely recommend doing so ASAP-you won’t regret it! Originally, Sarah was meant to have one signing in Sydney, however due to the overwhelming response from fans, Kinokuniya (the awesome bookshop that hosted the event) and Bloomsbury Australia (the fantastic publisher of TOG and ACOTAR) added 2 extra signings. I went to the first of the Sydney signings on Wednesday the 25th November.
I met with Keely from My Spin On Books who is absolutely lovely (and someone I seem to meet/go to many bookish events with!). We got their quite early to ensure we got seats up the front as we were told the events were all sold out! While we waited for Sarah, we checked out the impressive YA selection in the store. I was EXTREMELY tempted to buy so many books. I really can’t see me ever getting to the bottom of my TBR list (and that doesn’t bother me at all).
Sarah first answered a couple of questions and then signed our books. We were told different facts about character names-Chaol’s name sounds like Chaos but with an ‘l’ at the end, and that Sarah has used names from myths/stories but has put a different twist on them. We also found out that Sarah herself was the President of the Lord of the Rings club at her high school and had her own Legolas cut-out! After all the questions and fantastic stories from SJM we started lining up to get our books signed AND I WAS THE FIRST PERSON-I’m never the first person! It was great to talk to Sarah and fangirl over my Harry Potter T-Shirt.
In the first email we received with the details for the event said we could bring 5 of SJM’s books, which I thought was hard enough since SJM has 6 books published. However that was further changed to only 3 books in total, as that’s all the other states were allowed to bring-which is fair but I was a bit upset. Luckily SJM had signed extra books which were for sale! I ended up getting ACOTAR personally signed, TOG and QOS generally signed and purchased signed copies of COM and HOF (wow that’s a lot of acronyms!). Yay for signed books!
Altogether I had an amazing time and would like to thank Sarah, the Bloomsbury Australia team and the Kinokuniya Sydney team for an absolutely wonderful Sarah J. Maas event. I hope to see Sarah again in the future!
