Peeta and Gale Cast in THG Movie
Finally, Katniss has her two male leads. Josh Hutcherson joins the cast as the lovable and sensitive Peeta, while Liam Hemsworth will play the strong and loyal Gale. In case you want to judge their acting abilities for yourself, you can watch Josh Hutcherson in Bridge to Terabithia, Cirque du Freak, and The Kids Are All Right. Liam Hemsworth played the hunky male lead in The Last Song. Personally, while neither were my top choices, I’m definitely satisfied with them and interested to see their portrayals of Peeta and Gale alongside Jennifer Lawrence.
What do you guys think of the choices? Were they picked for acting ability or looks? And now, who will they cast as Haymitch, Rue, and Effie?

They’re definitely not what I imagined when I read the books, but I saw Jennifer Lawrence’s casting as a good sign that they weren’t 100% motivated by looks
I think Josh Hutcherson is a good choice – haven’t seen him in much as an adult but he’s not too pretty and apart from being a little young he should be great.
As for Gale, nothing alike but then again neither is Lawrence. Must say his acting credits don’t inspire confidence but I’m a fan of his brothers acting, so hopefully…
With so many people auditioning and the director not being huge either I’m hopeful the producers know that these guys are the best actors for the job…
I actually think Hayley Steinfeld or Chloe Moritz would be good for Rue – too young for Katniss, but both would be great in the movie.
Effie has always been Helena Bonham Carter for me – she’s my favorite actress and I think she could pull off Effie’s zaniness effortlessly!
Haymith I’m unsure about; lots of people say Hugh Laurie, but I would like someone who looks completely beaten up by life, so my ideal choice is… Mickey Rourke! Saw him in The Wrestler and thought he’d be great, anyone else agree?

I think they chose well, I already love Josh Hutcherson I HATE HATE HATE Liam as Gale but I hate Gale so it’s all good.
When I pictured Katniss and Peeta it was those two that they chose who I thought about, (with the right hair color)
Suzanne Collins stated she loved the cast and it is HER book so who knows the characters other than her, I have read them fifty-six times and I think the cast will do great.
although i hardly know these actors when i look at the photos of them together i think that they complement each other! i hope that the movie will be good and they will portray the characters well:)
well, i never pictured…well any of them the way they are.Katniss always seemed a brunette character, and Peeta always seemed the tall blonde, and gale the black-ish brown. Hair-wise at least. At first I was appalled at Katniss’s character, but movie magic is possible. But Gale…no….just no. I can’t picture them the same way. Maybe it’s because personally I don’t like Mr. Hemsworth as an actor…i don’t know. I really, really hope that movie magic will happen and they will all be perfect, and I’ll cry all over again when Rue _____’s, and it will be beautiful and perfectly crazy and amazing just like the book was. But, acting-wise, i love Josh Hutcherson’s acting, and I’m curious to see how well this adaption will be.
Well, everybody who is blond, I saw as brunette. And everybody who is brunette I saw as blond. Here’s hoping hair dye will be involved!

Suzanne Collins and Gary Ross did an interview recently where they defended/explained their choices, and I have to say, they seemed to really, REALLY believe in these actors. So I’m hopeful! I have no reason not to be yet, right?
(Plus Jennifer and Josh have both done some great work.)
I was not sure at first but now I think I like the choices…she won’t look as glam as she did at the Oscar’s in this movie…she didn’t look very glammy in Winter’s Bone…
While I’ve gone over worrying who plays who (since movie business is all about getting as much money out of everything as possible, regardless of acting talent and such), I hope they use hair dye, cause, uh, it will be really weird otherwise. o_o
I would like to see their photos with proper hair colour. What I could see now is the other way around.
Josh does not fit my imagination of Peeta. I think Peeta should be taller, blond with blue eyes. The last two will do just fine. But the height? Josh is 165-170 cm. Will the trick work it out? like The Lord of the Ring? What do you think of Zac Efron? He is handsome with proper height. He is kinda playboy but he is great in Charlie St. Cloud…:) Jen is great. I don’t mind her as Katniss. I am team Peeta so I do not really care who will play Gale…:)

But, but, Peeta’s supposed to be blonde, and Gale is dark haired. I think they’d be better the other way round.
I think it’s important that the characters look the same as in the book to an extent, as it’s great when they resemble the way the readers imagine them, but at the end of the day the acting is all that counts.
Gary Ross has said that Lawrence will be dyeing her hair though, so that’s something. I agree, I’m not a Gale fan either, so Liam Hemsworth didn’t bother me so much. Josh Hutcherson is sweet, as long as he gets Peeta’s honesty across he should be great.
So excited about Jennifer Lawrence: I think her performance in Winter’s Bone is really similar to Katniss in HG. She’s the head of the family, having to provide for her siblings as her catatonic mother is useless after her father disappears. She then has to go on a quest to save her family from destitution… And so on. If her performance is half as good as in the movie, it’ll be great
the hunger games are THE best books i have ever read (i read about a book a day) and i can tell already that the movie is going to spoil it. the characters look nothing like they are described, especeaily katniss. i am soooooo disapointed!!!!
Having seen the movie now, I can say with confidence that these actors were perfect in every way for their parts.
Also, I think it’s hilarious how people freaked out about the hair colors. Has anyone heard of hair dye? Haha.
