Audiobooks ... to count or not to count .. that is the question
Hi all,
Nikki and I have debated this topic on numerous occassions therefore I decided to open it up for YA readers comments.
But first a little background .....
I literally (excuse the pun) read at the pace of a snail taking days to finish a book whereas Nikki can usually start and finish a book within a day.
A couple of years ago I started listening to Audiobooks as it suited my busy lifestyle. With a full-time job, teaching aerobics part-time and studying
an MBA partime, what little time I had left I had to dedicate to things other than reading. In 2008 I listened to more audiobooks than books
physically read in the last five years.
So my question is to all YA readers. Should audiobooks count towards your book count in this competition?
I say yes!!
Brad
PS: I still don't think I will make 100 books but I will certainly get through a lot more .....

This is my take:
Unless your blind, I don't think audiobooks should count. This is a READING challenge, not a listening challenge. I'm interested in what everyone
thinks.
And Brad, it actually takes you weeks to finish a book, not days hon :P

My take is Audio books should count, because its a book read. Long car trips where you want to read but cant it comes in handy. and also its a family
experiance. Moreover, it takes MORE time for a aduio book that it does (for most people) to read.

I say YES too. It's still technically a book anyway. Hence the name AudioBOOK haha. And besides I listen to audiobooks a lot so I'm pretty biased.
And lmao a toaster!

Awwww Nik .... as Ivy said, it is still technically a book babe! It could mean I actually can talk to you about the Mortal Instruments series sooner
rather than later!!!
With two 'Yays' so far I will create a new section for my list of book so far this year!!

Ivy, Nik actually listened to some of the Twilight series on Audiobook. That is actually how I originally got into the series as I never would have
read the entire series by December last year.
She didn't like the female narrator as she put emphasis on words differently to how Nikki perceived them when she read the books.
That is probably the only criticism I do have for Audiobooks. When you read you books you create these characters and voices in your head. Some of
that is lost (or is different) when you listen verses read.

ahhh.... so you listen to an audiobook you haven't read before and you don't list them?
I dunno, I don't consider it cheating though. As what Brad said, sometimes it's just convenient. Like when your driving and stuff. In my case, I
listen to an audiobook when I get eye strains. I read and stare at my computer most of the time.
Why do you think it's cheating Nik?

I vote yes, too! I totally agree with Brad, an audiobook should count as a book, after all you got into the story, got to know the characters, felt
with them and afterwards you know what happened. Who cares if your ears or your eyes took in the information?
If I didn't listen to audiobooks it would take me forever to finish books. They're just so much easier because I can listen to them when I'm on the
train or walking from one place to another where I cannot hold a book in front of me ... and sometimes my eyes are just too tired to read a book.

I love audiobooks because I can take it everywhere but its not the same as books and it has happened to me that I hated an audiobook and then read the
book = 2 different stories, depends onhow well is read.

I think they should count.
If you do lead a busy lifestyle and you cant read all the time, audiobooks are the best option. If you're slow at reading too, this is good :D
Reading it still owns all!
