J.K. Rowling's New Book: The Casual Vacancy

So I just read J.K. Rowling's new book The Casual Vacancy is coming out on September 27th. What does everyone think?

I am on the fence. I don't think it sounds all that interesting compared to the teen novels that I read. Who knows though maybe it will be just as interesting as Harry Potter. Again...I doubt it, but I will hold out total judgment until 9/27.

Courtesy of BN.com:

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling's first novel for adults.

Nobody writes better than J.K. Rowling, so I'm sure it will be good. I doubt it will live up to Harry Potter status..but I'll def give it a shot. I'm shocked it's coming out so soon, though. I would have thought they'd make us wait till Fall 2013.

I know! I thought next year too. They are pushing it out really fast.

That's a little weird. Maybe they're wanting to make a movie on it? That would make pushing it out so fast less confusing.

Hmm, it sounds alright. I'm liking the title.

The blurb didn't really grab me, but I don't like to judge too quickly. I'll have to read some excerpts before I can make my mind up. People are always going to make comparisons of any work she comes out with with Harry Potter. That's a lot of pressure on her part.

Has anyone seen the cover yet?

Don't like it --- but then again, not a big fan of some HP covers.

I loved the Harry Potter covers. I am not digging this cover at all and I am not holding out great hopes for the novel either but I will waive total judgement until after I get the chance to read it.

I was a big fan of the HP books, not so much of this one. I actually am looking forward to it, though, because Rowling is an amazing author. It won't be YA, so people will definitely have to keep that in mind while reading that, but I'm excited to see what she came up with!

I'm keeping my expectations down for this book... don't want to be disappointed! If it wasn't written by JKR it's not a book I would think to pick up from reading the blurb, or from the cover for that matter - not at all a fan of the cover art :(
Also I can't believe she called the main character Barry!!

Has anyone read this book yet? I am wondering if it is worth it for me to read it... I love Harry Potter and I just don't want this book to be a let down.

I started reading it but haven't had much time to read it yet. It's interesting she definitely has her own unique style of writing and it feels very similar to Harry Potter. I think you should try giving it a chance you might like it. I'm enjoying it so far. :)

Thanks. I think I will definitely try it out. I mean it is J.K. Rowling after all. She is an absolutely amazing author, as is evident through the Harry Potter series. :) Thank you.

So I've read a few more chapters into it and it is definitely an adult book. It's filled with so many different characters and has a ton of detail, I have yet to get to actual story or plot. I'm not sure what to make of it yet.
