Illustrations, good or bad?

I personally detest any but the most trivial of illustrations, a skull here a fancy letter there, but I'm sure many do not share my view. Comments please

I'm rather good, if I say so myself

For me, it really depends on if the illustrations suit the story/add in a worthwhile element. If the illustrations are just there as a gimmick, then it's usually distracting and unwanted.

It can go either way. Just depends.

If it compliments the story, then sure.

My response was a little choppy since I was actually doing something else at the time of my response. I do like illustrations, but I don't love them. Some books call for them, some books don't. I tend to associate them more with children's books, though.

No, I don't care for illustrations. A little image at the beginning of the chapter is okay, but otherwise I find it distracting, as I tend to develop my own ideas from the writing about what characters and places look like.

^I agree.

Between the Lines, by Samantha Van Leer and Jodi Picoult, includes illustrations. I thought the pictures really added to that book, but I didn't much care for the text itself. So, maybe I like pictures more when I dislike the book?
