Yeah. That would've been an amazing last line(s). It was so sweet and I almost cried when she said "real." Still wish it wasn't so rushed. Even if it
was just an extra 20 pages or so, to redevelop their romantic relationship, more so for Peeta than Katniss.

So I've been processing this book over the last few days since I finished it.. and this is what I think of it as a whole. It was never about a love
triangle. It was never about "who will Katniss choose? Peeta? or Gale?" The story was meant to be about KATNISS. And I think Collins did a good job
of doing that. I think that's what I am satisfied with. In the end Katniss was left with herself.. her own reflections on everything that happened..
and in the end, she made choices for HER.
If a book leaves you thinking about it for days, it's got to be good.. right? I think my first reaction of disappointment was b/c I was so used to
the first 2 books, and this one took on so much more. It really made me dig deep & think about why this happened.. or what caused Collins to take
the story here.. THAT is excellent writing :-) |
Thank you. I was trying to get the words together for myself. After reading how many were saying that there are too many open ends, i was so bothered
by it. Of course there is an ending. Like you said the story was about Katniss. What happens with the government and war, who knows like Plutarch
(sp?) said, It may be the end of wars and it may not be (not exact wording). It wont be for a long time though. I dont blame Katniss for not wanting
to bring children into the world. All they went through and then if to lose one of her own, she might as well kill herself right then and there. She
absolutely did not settle for Peeta. She knew he was the one, no doubt long before the end.
This book was really everything in it. God buttercup and Katniss grieving together broke me. I swear with ever little thing that cracked Katniss it
cracked me. As soon as buttercup came back I lost it when they did. Poor Gale too. To live with the idea that your bomb may have killed your best
friends little sister. oh man.

I loved the last page and the epilogue, otherwise I waasn't too crazy about Mockingjay. I didn't like The Hunger Games all the much - I didn't like
Katniss or the writing and almost didn't finsih it - then I loved Catching Fire - Katniss rounded out more as a character so I wasn't annoyed with her
all the time - but then Mockingjay just didn't get better like I thought it would.

I think the only way I'm gonna stop being so bummed about this book is if I just move on and read something else. Lol, I probably sound ridiculous but
this book is so.....final. If there are things we didn't like, Suzanne Collins can't just be like "oops, my bad, let me just rewrite that for you".
Realistic endings are hard to swallow.

I was very happy with the book. Its good to get a dose of a reality when reading. It really was heartbreakingly sad but thats what made the book so
amazing. To have it touch you so deep. Thats what really makes a book. I applaud Suzanne Collins.

I just finished and I really liked it. It was probably my least favorite out of the 3 but I still enjoyed it.
The only thing I wish Collins did was add a few more pages on Peeta/Katniss relationship at the end. It seemed so rushed to me.
I wished Prim didn't die, I loved her
And Gale, in my opinion was AMAZING in this book! Loved him.

^ Yup. I wished she would've explained more about their relationship instead of summing it up. I really missed that in this book. Their relationship
barely felt like a part of the story until the last page, and even then it was a couple paragraphs. I could feel how much Katniss loved Peeta, but
then she sort of signed him off for a while. And Peeta...I just missed that boy and his love for Katniss. He came back eventually, but it took so long
and then it was all cut out...sad.
I still love the book, but my favorites tie between the first and second books.

It was. It helped bring Peeta back, and it also helped bring them back together. It was a dash of sweet throughout the pain.

The "Real or Not Real?" game was a great addition. It was really sweet seeing Peeta slowly warming back up to Katniss.
The loose ends things had to do with what the nation became. They were fighting to change how their system worked and so there would be equal
treatment and the like but then didn't say what the conclusion of it was. I was really interested to see what Collins would come up with for their new
government but then she didn't add anything dealing with that. That was left way too loose for me.
(I'm in America) How the war was presented and expressed really kinda helps those of us basically growing up in a time of war get a new look at it.
The war isn't upon us so we don't have our own first hand experiences thank goodness, but this also is very much true to this time period. We're in
war and maybe not for the right reasons. This book really helps to bring up different ethical questions which I think is very important for the newer
generation. Collins did do a great jo b with that.

I just finished it, and I'm pretty stunned.
It's hard to explain how I feel, but it was such a great book. Extremely realistic, and very mind-opening.
Personally I loved the ending. Even the epilogue. I think it leaves a better final message than the "Real." line does. It kind of reinforces that the
series isn't about the love triangle, but about war and what humanity can succumb to.
Though there were two things I will NEVER get over: Finnick and Prim's deaths. Especially Prim's, I never even considered it and she popped up so
unexpectedly. I literally yelled "Noo!" at the book..and then cried. I also cried when Katniss was grieving with Buttercup. I love that dang cat.
I'm feeling better now that I've written this out, haha.

I agree with your statement about it not being about a love triangle, and more about humanity. I think this book went above & beyond some
romantic cliche we tend to get from YA books. |
Yeah, it definitely did. Suzanne Collins is such an amazing writer.

Buttercup was the final straw.
When Finnick was killed, a part of me died. And then I read about his son...and it died again.

Even though Katniss hated Buttercup to some extent he was an awesome cat. And the thing with Finnick.... Why did he have to die like that?!
And what son?!

In the last few pages Katniss is talking about others and she mentions Annie and her newborn son. I was like :O :O :O :O
It was only like a sentence. But it made me cry.

Yeah, in the ending I was constantly re-reading lines to make sure I wasn't missing something huge.

I'm done reading it too, and I'm like ... I don't know what to say. The book was so amazing, sad, funny, and it got me to think over things like
mentioned over here. I really loved Finnick and Prim too, it was so sad what happened to them. Before I read the book I was kind of hoping for a very,
very happy ending, but I realize now that it was way much better this way. I love that thing went on a little realistic.
I agree with that the ending was a little bit rushed. I would love to know more about what happened to Katniss, her mother, Peeta, and at WHAT
happened to Gale?
Don't know what else to say, the book was amazing.

Same here! I was like, "Where's the happiness?!" But it is much better this way. Makes us face what happens. So things might have been a bit much but
it worked out. Didn't like the rushed ending though...

I agree with you guys that the ending was a bit rushed. I think that she could have expanded more with what happened with people. Annie, Katniss' mom,
GALE. Also with how she bonded with Peeta and finally fell back in love.
I was sort of Team Gale when the whole series started, but I definitely changed to Team Peeta. I could tell that she was in love with him. Even though
she didn't recognize it herself, I could see it from the beginning of the book when she wanted to save him from the Capitol and rebels, and that she
wanted to rescue him. As well as when they got him back and was getting better, I could tell she wanted to see him, but didn't want to hurt him with
him being hijacked. I knew she was going to pick him about halfway through.
I was sad with the people who died, mainly Finnick and Prim. I found Finnick to be a completely believable character while he was going through his
grief and then when they rescued Annie. I just can't believe she would kill him off, and then lay the bomb on us of his newborn son at the end! I was
like wait, what? and had to go back and read that sentence again. That part almost killed me.
Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the book. Even the ending and the epilogue. I think that it left closure to what people (mainly me) wanted to
know most. How the society continued after the revolution, and how Katniss ended up. I loved the whole real thing at the end. It almost made me cry.
It was so cute, but not too cutesy.

Exactly. She was the kind of person that didnt want to bring children into the world because of what it was. In the first book she said something like
that. then after years had gone by and she could see there was real change, she could think more about family.

I hated the ending
she basically kept it going... katniss will choose... Peeta or Gale
Then at the end, Gale just disappears

Yeah but she says that Katniss will always look at Gale and think of how he contributed to Prim's death, and he thought the same when he saw her. That
would always be between them.
