The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

"Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into a complex and atmospheric novel.

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of iniquity and corruption."

This book is getting reallyyyy popular where I'm at. I imagine it is in other places too.
I'm curious to know if anyone on here has read it yet and their thoughts on it.

I have not read it, but it is REALLY popular in Washington, at the moment. I heard it's because the author died? Anyways, I'm interested in them.

Oh yeah I heard about this, isn't it part of a trilogy or something?
I don't know if I'm going to check it out or not.

I haven't read the books myself but mother and friends have. It's apparently a great book, after the first 200 pages.

I've watched the movies which is good enough for me right now.

I've known about it for quite a while, but I was never interested enough to read it. I'm thinking about finally picking it up, though.

The first 100 or so pages is definitely a drag, but it's a good explanation of the setting and what's going on.
After that, it is AMAZING.
I really loved this book. I could not put it down. And I can't wait to read the next one. :)

I watched the movie instead of reading the book, and now I refuse to read the book.
The movie was horrible

In my opinion, this book isn't suited to be made into a movie. Most books are not, which is why movies based on books generally pale in comparison to the books.
I am excited for the American version though.

This series is super popular here, but it just doesn't sound like my kind of story/character. I may check out the movies.

I hope the AMerican movie might be better.
Emily Browning is going for the main character, and I think she'd do a brilliant job, but the girl Mia from Alice in Wonderland is also going for the main role. A lot of other no-named actors are also applying.

I haven't read this, maybe should though. But I have seen the movies and all my friends love it but I think it's so bad. I really hate the character Lisbeth Salander. She's so overrated.
