Chick Lit

Some of us hate it, some of us love it.

Personally, I think with the right book, chick lit is a great escapism. I have a bad habit for chick lit.

My favourite books are Bergdorf Blondes (Plum Sykes), Debutante Divorcees (Plum Sykes), Showdown (Tilly Bagshawe) and A Conneticut Fashionista in King Arthur's Court (Marianne Mancusi).

I went through a chick lit phase in 2007, so much so that I wrote my NaNoWriMo as a chick lit (A Knight in New York City) :D

Anyone else have any good chick lit to recommend?

Chick Lit as in Chick Literature. They're basically books written by women FOR women. Just girly, fun books. Like the_writer said, they work as good escapism and distractions. Nothing too heavy.
Books by authors like Meg Cabot. Gossip Girl books. Things like that.
Some people think they're dumb, but I think they serve the purpose.

the_writer, I used to have a huge chick lit phase as well. I read books by Cecily von Ziegesar and Meg Cabot. Gosh, it's been awhile. I do enjoy chick lit though.

Oh, now do adult "trashy" romance novels count as chick lit? Like Nora Roberts. There is another author Emily Giffin, id say her books are an adult Sarah Dessen.

I've never read them, but they probably are in a way.
Sarah Dessen is definitely teen chick lit though.

It depends on what book it is. I usually don't read them, but they are refreshing sometimes after all the adventure/mystery/paranormal stuff I read. Ive really only read The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot, which I liked. I also read the Clique series last year, and those were good to.

I know what it stood for but wasn't positive on the genre/authors who write it. So it's basically like CHICK FLICKS/movies but in book form...good to know cause I love that cheesy stuff! lmao

Like Chick Flicks!!!

Chick Lit is more adulty though, so I wouldn't consider Nora Roberts to be Chick Lit, because her books are more Romance. Sure Chick Lit includes romance, but its a sub category.

Think Meg Cabot, Cecily von whatshername (but the Gossip Girl series, while being good, are YA chick lit, same with most Meg Cabot books), Louise & Tilly Bagshawe, Sophie Kinsella. All those colourfully decorated book covers you see in Target or Big W.

It is a weird sort of genre, to think about it properly, but it is pure escapism as I said. You know the Nanny Diaries movie? Well the book that it's based on is chick lit. the Devil Wears Prada? Chick lit. Basically Chick Flicks could be called the visual version of chick lit. Light and fluffy!

Definitely...

So would Jessica Darling be considered Chick Lit?? I would think so, but then again everyone's always going back and forth between it being YA and Adult..

I would consider Jessica Darling as YA. I wouldn't think it would be Chick Lit, because Chick Lit is mainly adult books.

Wiki says this: According to professor Suzanne Ferriss, chick lit often features hip, stylish, career-driven female protagonists, usually in their twenties and thirties.

You do, as I said before, get YA chick lit though, and I think that shows in the Jessica Darling books, Meg Cabot and Gossip Girl.

Check out http://chicklitbooks.com/ for ideas.

The Shopaholic books are Chick Lit. Meg Cabot's books that are marketed towards older YA readers and adults are also Chick Lits.

Glad to help and bring the Chick Lit full circle!

I think the Jessica Darling books would be chick-lit... I think only the first one is considered YA. In every bookstore I've been to the JD books have been in general fiction section...

I think of chick-lit as light and a bit funny and sometimes a little romance...

I actually just read Chick Lit a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. It reminded me of this new medium of fiction I just got into called "emotobooks" They have a title called "Swing Zone" that kinda reminded me of Chick Lit. Empowered Females and a Sci-Fi twist in there. Was really a good read.

Chick Lits are a lot of fun to read, especially in the summer :) I don't have a lot of experience with them (I think I've been subconsciously avoiding Chick Lits because my friend is ridiculously obsessed with them :l) but the ones I've read are funny and relatable.
