I was not happy with the book.
and the characters annoyed me to no end.
John was a whiner almost the entire book
and Savannah.....well I don't want to be censored.

I just got back from seeing this movie.
**spoiler alert**
Although I did cry a lot, it wasn't as sad as I anticipated (the first time I saw the notebook I blubbered most the way through the second half).
I loved Channing Tatum. I though his performance was awesome.
And I understand why you guys hate Savannah now. I was sooo angry at her for marrying someone else, but when I found that it was TIm and WHY it was
TIm, I wasn't so mad at her. It was actually kind of selfless actually - she gave up John so save a kids life, essentially. And I liked Tim so much I
just couldn't hate him for it.
In the book do they end up together at the end? It definitely implied in the film, but I think the director wanted that to be up for interpretation.
I can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks.

I can't wait to see it. They don't end up together in the book either. In the book what made me cry was when John was taking care of his sick dad.
Their relationship was so much sadder to me than John and Savannah.

no, they didn't end up together in the book...that's why I really don't want to see it. Like I do but I don't you know? I probably will though just to
compare.
I loved Tim. He was my favorite and the only part I ALMOST cried in was in the epilogue when they talked about is remission.
I don't think I hated savannah because she married someone else. I hated john most of the book because he was a huge whiner..it might not have came
across that way in the movie but it totally did in the book. I hated Savannah the second half because 1)You just don't break up with someone like that
and 2)when you're married AND your husband's going through that you do NOT act like that with an old fling. It was just my opinion though.
I'm really nervous /=
I don't think I'm going to watch it tonight
I'm probably gonna watch Up in The Air or something.

Nichole - I haven't read the book, but I definitely think I will now.
It was my interpretation that they were either together at the end of the film, or that was definitely going to happen.
**Spoilers alert again**
Tim died in the film - does he not die in the book?
In the film, John was no whiner. He was seriously, seriously in love with Savannah. The way she broke up with him broke my heart.
And yes, I cried the most when he was in the hospital reading that letter to his Dad. I think he had a lot of regrets regarding his father and by the
time he realized, it was too late.
After I realized the reason Savannah married TIm, i stopped being mad at her. And that's why, when John came back to town, I wasn't mad at her for
leading him on. She was still totally in love with him. She'd done what was needed of her, she married Tim and therefore made sure that Allan was
going to have a home and be well loved, even after Tim died. I don't think it's that she didn't love Tim, because I think she did. But she was just
more in love with John. In the movie, I think Tim also realized that she married him to help him, rather than because she loved him more than JOhn.
Now that Tim is dead, it seems only natural that she'll end up with John. Especially considering Allan seems totally okay with him.

Well, like I said, I don't think she wasn't IN LOVE with Tim, she was just in love with John more. She explains that the reason she married Tim was
because he was sick, and she was alone and scared and confused and Allan needed her help.
Even Tim says to John that he realizes that Savannah still loves John more than him... but he married her anyway because he loved her.
And yes, Tim died. But it was because of John that his life lasted as long as it did.

Do what I did, go to a session in the middle of the day. There weren't that many people there - just lots of women who rocked up on their own.
Actually, I couldn't help but feel that most of the women in the room were probably military wives.

Like ALL Sparks novels, the interpretation is always left up to the reader.
I read the book but have not seen the movie.
In the book-you know that Savannah and John are in love. But compared to Nichole I didn't feel like John was a whiner at all. I felt like Savannah was
extremely selfish. She couldn't handle the fact that John was re-enlisting himself in the army, and it was obviously tearing them apart. He talked
about how he could feel things changing between them but he didn't know what it was, obviously because he was in Germany. He gets R&R for two
weeks, and that's when I finally hated Savannah for good, you have to read the book to see the interactions between them.
Once you find out they broke up, and that years later she ends up married to Tim, I'm just like WOW. This is after his dad dies, etc., he just wants
to find out what happened to her (he comes to find out shes married to Tim) then he founds out how Tim has cancer. It's lead to believe he was gonna
die...she starts clinging to him, because she's scared and I personally think because she knew she settled. I think she settled for Tim because it was
the safer thing to do. She grew up with him, he was a good guy, it was just easy. Being with John wasn't. It hurt, she had to deal with feelings, I
don't think Savannah could handle that, no matter how much she loved John. That's what makes her selfish to me. Then she actually gets pissed at John
for leaving her, instead of trying to be with her again, like wtf? Then he ends up giving money to her (won't say why you'll find out in the book if
the movie didn't have it) an "anonymous donation" so that Tim can get experimental treatment done. The end of the book it's left with him spying on
them from a hill seeing them "happy" and Tim looking healthy.
I only heard about the sequel because it was quoted that Sparks said if the movie did good, there could possibly be a second book.
I don't know how I would feel about it, I'd read it for sure...I just wish John got a happy ending with a woman.

Will there be a sequel?
I'm uncertain. While I didn't write the novel with a sequel in mind, I'm open to the possibility. If I can come up with a good, original story, I just
might do it.

I want to see it....hopefully soon! In all honesty if Tim died in the movie, that could definitely set Sparks up to write a second novel.
