Book Review: The Look of Love (The Sullivans #1) by Bella Andre

11757975Fall in love with the Sullivans in Bella Andre’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling contemporary romance series! Over a million books sold so far!

With THE LOOK OF LOVE, Bella Andre introduces you to the emotional, sexy and fun contemporary romance series about the Sullivan family. Because when a Sullivan bad boy falls…he falls hard. And it’s forever.

BOOK DESCRIPTION: Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is–until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love–and protect–her, but will she let him?

Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her–and every sinfully sweet caress–as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart. (love story, contemporary romance, alpha males, heroes, sexy romance, bad boys, falling in love).

Book Review:

This book was recommended to be by Erica over at The Book Cellar. We’re both a big fan of adult contemporaries. Since she’s read more of them than I have, I hit her up for some recs, and she sent me to this gem of a book. I’m so excited to have been introduced to the Sullivan series!!!

Chase and Chloe were such a cute couple to read about! Every page was full of romance and sweetness. It was just so beautiful! This is definitely not a book that is going to have suspense or drama. It’s just a beautiful romance that will tug at your heart strings.

My only real issue that I had with this book was that it was super insta-lovey. Both of the main characters were professing their undying love for each other within 48 hours of meeting each other. That’s just not realistic in any world. I’m not saying true love doesn’t exist, but it is impossible to fall head over heels in love with someone in 48 hours. Be real.

As for characters, Chloe bugged me a little bit. No, a lot a bit. I loved Chase to pieces, but Chloe came across as an old lady 100% of the time. As a character who was supposed to portray a 30 year-old, I would have pegged her more like 50. I know that’s kind of harsh, but she was just very bland. I also didn’t think that she represented a victim of abuse very well. While I liked the fact that she stood up for herself, the whole thing just seemed very unrealistic.

Overall, this one was a cute read. Would I read it again? Probably not, but I’m very excited to dive into some of the other characters!
