Book Review: The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld #7) by Gena Showalter

darkest secretIn this sexy new installment of Showalter’s bestselling Lords of the Underworld series, the haunted Amun meets a woman who tempts him like no other…

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty.

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun’s kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul…and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

My Review:

Ok, what? Amun and Haidee? What about Amun and Kaia? What about Strider and Haidee? WHAT IS GOING ON?! It’s not okay to practically throw it in our laps that that will be the line up and then CHANGE IT! Super confused! That’s what we thought the ENTIRE last book AND we thought Amun and Kaia since Aeron’s book! WHAT IS HAPPENING!? I’m so confused right now.

I hate to say it, but I didn’t like this book at all. Maybe it was because we barely got any face time with Amun throughout the series. It definitely was because I couldn’t STAND Haidee. And it’s possibly that I was just really ticked off about Amun and Haidee being a thing. It didn’t work. I didn’t like it.

Amun and Haidee were the most nauseating couple to read about. OMG. If I had to hear them cooing, whining, or going on and on and ON about how they couldn’t have sex ONE MORE TIME, I was going to rip through those pages and STRANGLE THEM! There is only SO MUCH of that nonsense that I can take. AND I REACHED MY LIMIT! For realz, yo. I skimmed SO MUCH throughout this book. It was NOT my cup of tea!

The only positive sides of this book were the scenes with Liam, Gilly, Strider, and Paris. I love THEIR scenes. Everything else sucked butt. PASS.

Bring on Strider’s book!
