The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team proves that love is a power play. As Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling series continues, the league’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.
I have been DYING to read this book! So, me being me, read the series COMPLETELY out of order and started with book five! GO ME! It didn’t matter, though, because these books can be read out of order as standalones. The previous characters were mentioned throughout the book, but it was mostly just about Hawke and Vale.
OH. MY. LORD. This book was SMOKING HOT. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I even fanned myself down in some scenes! Holllllllly Smokes! This is a definite must read, especially for NA lovers and/or hockey/sports fans. YES, PLEASE!
I absolutely adored Hawke and Vale. There were a couple moments that each character sorta kinda got on my nerves, but it didn’t matter. LOVED THEM. They had so much chemistry together. I loved that they already had a past and had so much anger at each other 7 years later. I would have liked to see the two main characters prolong their relationship a little bit longer than they actually did. They jumped back into it a little sooner than expected. Didn’t really matter…but I thought that it would have added to the story.
Let me tell you, I NEVER cry in books. I can probably name all the books I’ve ever cried over on one hand. I just don’t have that emotion over books. While I didn’t exactly bawl over this book, I did cry. There were some super emotional scenes that just tugged at my heart strings. SO BEAUTIFUL.
I felt that the ending was a little bit rushed and cheesy. I would have liked to see it come together a little bit more than it actually did. Again, it wasn’t the biggest deal ever. Some books, especially in this genre, are just going to have some rushed, cheesy endings. I took it for what it was and still adored every moment.
I would 100% recommend this book to NA and adult lovers. I would also recommend this series as a great start for anyone who is wanting to venture into the NA genre. Sometimes really good NA books can be hard to find. This series is a great example of wonderful, hot, steamy, yummy NA writing. I NEED MORE!
