On his own
Thomas Bellweather hasn’t been in town long. Just long enough for his newlywed mother to be murdered, and for his new stepdad’s cop colleagues to decide Thomas is the primary suspect.
Not that there’s any evidence. But before Thomas got to Garretts Mill there had just been one other murder in twenty years.
The only person who believes him is Charlotte Rooker, little sister to three cops and, with her soft hands and sweet curves, straight-up dangerous to Thomas. Her best friend was the other murder vic. And she’d like a couple answers.
Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden…
I absolutely adore Brigid Kemmerer. I don’t often add authors into my “favorite authors of all time” list, but I have to include her. The Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer is one of my favorite series of all time. To the point that no one is even allowed to touch my copies. They are just way too precious to me. So, when I learned that she was writing a whole different series….I flipped into crazy mode and had to get a copy of it. I want to extend a huge thank you to Kensington Teen for allowing me to review an Advanced copy of this book. There was just no way I could wait until almost January to read this book!
THICKER THAN WATER made me feel so many emotions: love, fear, terror, hatred, sad, and happy. The unusual thing is that it made me feel several emotions during just one scene. This book was one of the most heart wrenching books that I have ever read. I honestly don’t even know how to express all of my feelings. All I can really say is WOW. Just WOW. Everyone needs to go read this book.
Holy cow, did this book make me blush?! Honestly, there were a few scenes in THICKER THAN WATER that almost knocked it up to a NA book. It wasn’t quite there, but phewww. The heat in some of those scenes! And Thomas? YUM! He has officially been bumped up to my ‘favorite book boyfriends’ list. I wasn’t overly crazy about Charlotte. I do wish she would have stood up for herself more against her appalling family…but that boy. Any girl would have been lucky to have him.
I have to admit that there were some scenes in this book that were a little too scary for my taste. Honestly, though, that could have been because I was reading this book at night in the dark. When Charlotte starts having dreams of a past murder….I have to skim through some of those scenes. They scared the crap out of me. The writing was still flawless; the book was still great. Those scenes, though? Were a bit terrifying.
Another thing to be warned about is that Charlotte’s family will absolutely piss you off. OMG…they made me SO mad. And that’s a good thing that THICKER THAN WATER was making me feel so many emotions. Seriously, though, I hated them. And that mother?! OMG…she was 100% worse than the grandma…who was made to seem like the worst in the family. No…I wanted to slap that mother across the face for treating Charlotte like that. Be warned that you might feel some super feminist feelings when it comes to that family!
The ending of THICKER THAN WATER completely threw me by surprise. I honestly thought that something else entirely was going on. Heck, there was even a SCENE that proved my thinking! But I was wrong! I was SO WRONG. I don’t even know where that came from!
Overall, THICKER THAN WATER was amazeballs. I loved it. I can’t wait to read more in this series. Everyone, GO READ IT NOW!
