Kara Taylor wrote PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL in her first semester of graduate school, in between pulling all nighters and listening to her dad say writing isn’t a real job. She recently signed a blind script deal with Warner Brothers television and is now the writer and co-executive producer of THE REVENGERS, a dramedy in development at The CW with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (CELESTE & JESSE FOREVER). She lives on Long Island.
Hi, Kara! Thanks for stopping by YaReads (again) [;
I AM SO SAD THAT THIS SERIES IS OVER! I needed a moment to scream that out before I actually start on this interview. Ok. Here goes.
1. What are you feeling now that the Prep School Confidential series is coming to an end?
A lot of different emotions! The first is a feeling of accomplishment; three years ago I never would have thought I could write three books in the same world with the same character. So obviously along with that is a touch of sadness– I’ll miss writing these characters so much! And then finally, excitement, because as much as I care about these characters, I’m so looking forward to writing new stories and maybe branching out into different genres.
2. Do you have future plans to maybe continue the series or to write a spin off/companion novel?
Not at the moment, but you never know what the publisher might decide in the future! For the foreseeable future, this book is the end of the series, although I hope the characters go on to get into more trouble and adventures in the minds of readers.
3. Are there any spoilers you can give us about the third book?
Hmm…Anne winds up with the guy I’ve loved the most from the beginning, but wasn’t sure she should wind up with. That’s all I’ll say 😉
4. You’re currently working on a new book. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
My new book will be out in 2016, and I’m beyond excited about it. There should be an announcement in the next month or so, but for now, I’ll say that it’s a mystery/thriller in the vein of Gillian Flynn’s DARK PLACES.
5. Is it going to be another mystery series or are you taking an entirely different route?
Yes and no– this won’t be a series (although there will be another book after it) but if you liked Anne’s voice and the creepier moments in PSC you’ll like my new main character, Tessa.
6. Can we look forward to any hunky guys? [;
There is a guy, but there isn’t a romance in this book. It’s very focused on the relationship between the main character and her childhood best friend whom she hasn’t seen or spoken to in years.
7. Will it be a standalone or are you planning another three book series?
This book is a standalone, and so will be the one after it. Someday I may do another series, but for now I’d really love to explore stories with a firm beginning and end for the characters.
8. What is the best book you’ve read recently?
Jenn Marie Thorne’s THE WRONG SIDE OF RIGHT, which I read for a blurb. It’s coming out in 2015 and it’s like THE PRINCESS DIARIES meets Sarah Dessen. I LOVED it and can’t wait for everyone to read it!
9. What is currently in your TBR pile?
I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN by Jandy Nelson, THE WALLED CITY by Ryan Graudin, and SECOND VERSE by Jennifer Walkup.
Now for some fun random questions:
What is the best movie you’ve watched recently? DISCONNECT with Jason Bateman, Alexander Skaarsgard, and Paula Patton. It’s like the movie CRASH but about how the Internet has a negative effect on our lives. I really liked it!
Current favorite song?
I’m really loving TEAM by Lorde.
Most random thing that’s happened to you recently?
When I was watching DISCONNECT on HBO the other day, I recognized a girl I used to be in dance class with! She played a character named Maria. I looked her up on IMDB to make sure it was her. That was really cool.
Binge watching DISAPPEARED and other crime shows on Netflix! (When I’m not watching ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK)
Drink of choice?
Usually it’s a margarita, but lately I’ve been into Bloody Marys!
Most memorable moment at a book signing?
In Kara Taylor’s Deadly Little Sins, Anne Dowling investigates a mysterious disappearance in this fast-paced, twisty conclusion to the Prep School Confidential series.
It’s August and Anne is back in New York City for the summer, but she can’t escape the memories of the terrible things that happened at the Wheatley School last spring— and the possibility of being expelled looming over her. When an unexpected— and suspicious— turn of events gets Anne sent back to Wheatley, she’s determined to figure out what happened to her favorite teacher and only adult ally at the school: Ms. Cross.
After a shocking, gruesome murder with connections to the Wheatley School occurs, Anne is convinced there’s more to Ms. Cross’s sudden disappearance, and that her favorite teacher is in danger. But after an ugly breakup with Brent and a new, inexplicable distance between her and Anthony, Anne isn’t sure who she can trust. And even worse, someone at Wheatley knows the truth about what happened to Ms. Cross— someone who will stop at nothing to keep Anne from learning the truth in this engrossing, unputdownable read
