Book of the Month: Author Interview with Chloe Neill

Book of the Month

Can you tell us about the newest Chicagoland Vampires book, Midnight Marked, in 40 words or less?

Can “Merit loves food” be ten of them? 🙂 Merit, Ethan, and their supernatural colleagues are facing an enemy who refuses to back down, and a mysterious new magic that’s appearing across the city. They’ve got to work together with Mallory, the Ombuddies, and others to stop the threat.

What was your favorite scene to write?

There are many favorite scenes in this book, including some great action and steamy romance.  But my favorite are two scenes in which I invented new words. That’s always fun.

There are only going to be a couple more books in this series, correct? Do you already know how you’re going to end it?

There will be one more–thirteen total, and MIDNIGHT MARKED is number twelve.  Yes, I know what Book 13 will be about, and how it will end. 🙂

You’re also writing the Devil’s Isle series. How many books are going to be in that series?

There will be at least three, and I’m currently editing the second book, THE SIGHT, which will be released on August 16, 2016.  I’d love to write more, but that depends on me, my publisher, and sales.

Do you have any other works planned?

I do! I’m outlining a completely different novel in a completely different world, and there’s a Top Secret proposal for something else in front of my publisher right now.

You’ve written one YA series, The Dark Elite series. Do you ever plan to go back to YA or to the Dark Elite series?

Not at this time, although people keep asking if there will be a fourth book!

What has been your favorite moment/experience throughout the Chicagoland Vampires series?

Probably hearing from readers who tell me that reading the CV novels has given them light moments during dark times in their lives. That’s why I read (and why I started writing), so that means a lot to me.

If a reader was a looking for a series similar to the Chicagoland Vampires series, what series would you recommend to them?

I’d suggest they check out Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep, Ilona Andrews, Charlaine Harris, and Patricia Briggs, who all write amazing urban fantasy! (Although they’re probably already reading most of those folks!)

What theme song would you give to Midnight Marked?

How about Lorde’s version of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World?”

What is the best book you’ve read recently?

Right now, I’m reading two very good books about Louisiana (for research for THE SIGHT).  The Louisiana Field Guide by Orgera and Parent, and Patriotic Fire by Groom. I’m trying to get the details right!

Thanks so much for stopping by YaReads!!!!

Thanks for having me!
