I am SO SO SO SO SO excited to feature Wicked Little Secrets by Kara Taylor as our Book of the Month. This book was amazeballs. I loved it! I’m very excited to share an author interview with Kara Taylor. I hope you all enjoy it!!
Kara Taylor wrote PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL in her first semester of graduate school, in between pulling all nighters and listening to her dad say writing isn’t a real job. She recently signed a blind script deal with Warner Brothers television and is now the writer and co-executive producer of THE REVENGERS, a dramedy in development at The CW with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (CELESTE & JESSE FOREVER). She lives on Long Island.
What couple do you ship from another series?
Dorian and Celaena from the Throne of Glass series. Chaol, shmaol!! (Heck, yes! I love them!!!)
What is the best book you’ve read recently?
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell for sure.
I loved The Spectacular Now and can’t wait to read the book!
Biggest pet peeve?
UGH, my house phone ringing off the hook with telemarketers. That’s more of a rage inducer than a pet peeve though!
Most anticipated book of 2014?
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas and Gillian Flynn’s YA novel, which is supposed to come out this year.
Can you tell us about Wicked Little Secrets in 15 words or less?
Anne investigates a thirty-year-old cold case and risks losing everything.
I’m dying to know how many books are planned for this series. Please say more than three?
Right now, just the three, but never say never. Anything can happen!
What was your favorite scene to write in Wicked Little Secrets?
When Anne spies on the crew team guys during their creepy hazing ritual called The Drop.
Do you have a favorite male choice for Anne or are you just waiting to see how it plays out?
I have my favorite guy for sure. But while I’m writing, I flip flop about which guy is really best for her. Both Brent and Anthony have
minds of their own while they’re writing, and sometimes they’ll do things where I’ll think, “God, they’re both perfect for her!”. Other times, I’ll think, “Damn, she’d be better off without both of them!”
Alexis didn’t really have a big role in WLS. Can we expect more of her in Deadly Little Sins?
Speaking of Deadly Little Sins, is there anything you can tell us about it?
It was the most difficult book I’ve ever written. Anne was very frustrating to me in the beginning, because she’s having a hard time with everything that happened at the end of book 2. But I do think in book 3 it’s obvious how much Anne has grown and changed since that first chapter in PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL where she’s very oblivious and self absorbed.
You are so frustrating me with Remy and Cole! Are they finally going to get together in book 3?
My lips are sealed on that one! It took me a long time to figure out if those two should really be together or not.
I assume that Jessica Cross is going to be the focus of Deadly Little Sins. I have my assumptions about her, but I’m probably wrong. Is there any tid bits of information that you can reveal about her?
I would love to hear your theories! All I’ll say is that [WICKED LITTLE SECRETS SPOILER!] she’s not the person she says she is, and Anne is devastated because she trusted her and cared about her.
Eventually, Anne is going to start pissing people off by getting them thrown in jail and…worse. Can we expect anyone to try and seek revenge for her efforts?
Almost everything Anne has done comes back to her in some way in book 3…it was really important to me that she not be let off the hook!
What is currently in your TBR pile?
DEAD SILENCE by Kimberly Derting is next up on my Kindle queue. I can’t wait to see how that series ends.
Is there anything else you’d like to say before you go?
You are the best for choosing WICKED LITTLE SECRETS as your book of the month. I’m so excited for everyone to read! Also, I just burned my mouth on tea.
Anne Dowling becomes entangled in a web of secrets involving a missing student and a conspiracy at Wheatley Prep in this fast-paced, juicy follow-up to Prep School Confidential
Anne Dowling—a fresh, original, and funny new YA heroine whose knowing, irreverent voice will remind readers of Pretty Little Liars and Private—is back for her second semester at Wheatley Prep. Although things have settled (somewhat) since her roommate Isabella’s death, Anne’s still kind of obsessed with the disappearance of Wheatley student Matthew Weaver thirty years ago, since she found a picture of him and his crewmates with the words “they killed him” scrawled on the back among Isabella’s things.
When Anne learns that her boyfriend Brent’s dad is one of the now-powerful Wheatley alumni who rowed crew with Matthew, and that the crew team continues to induct new members with a creepy-sounding ritual called “The Drop,” she knows further investigation could put her relationship with Brent in danger. Determined to discover the truth, she reaches out to Anthony, Isabella’s townie brother, who helps her delve deeper into the secrets in Wheatley’s past. Secrets someone would kill to keep hidden. As the school’s Spring Formal—and its notorious afterparty—approaches, Anne sees the perfect opportunity to do some off-campus digging into the lives of Wheatley’s VIPs in this thrilling, unputdownable read—but if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next student who never comes back.
